About Punjab Police:
The Punjab Police was constituted by the Police Order of 2002 and is governed by the Police Rules of 1934. The Central Police Office (CPO) in Lahore has several divisions, including the Division of Legal Affairs (Legal Branch), Finance and Welfare, Operations, Training, and Research and Development. The Inspector General of Police receives reports from the branches through their Additional Inspectors General of Police. The Regional Police Officers are under the authority of the Inspector General of Police, not the Punjab CPO.
The British government appointed magistrates with dargahs and other subordinate personnel in place of the zamindars, who were responsible for police duties. The Dargah system was abolished and soldiers were appointed to supervise tax and police affairs under Madras Regulation XI of 1816.
An analogous framework was established within that municipality by Bombay Regulation XII in 1827. The absence of a subservient revenue organization in Bengal resulted in the persistence of the dargah system. However, in 1811, a portion of their cognizance powers were revoked, thereby limiting their authority.
