Financial Coverage

  • Research Support Allowance: Financial support for research-related expenses.
  • Stipend: $46,428 a year, split into 12 equal parts, for full-time study. This includes an extra $15,000 from RMIT on top of the RTP rate.
  • Relocation Allowance: Help with getting the money to move to the study area.
  • Health Insurance for International Students: Comprehensive health insurance coverage.

Eligibility for Scholarship

VCPS scholarships are given out after a competitive process that ranks applicants based on how well they have done in school, in research, and in related work experience.

  • an Honours degree achieving first-class Honours
  • a 4 year bachelor degree achieving a GPA of 4 or equivalent (80% or above).

If you don’t have any of the above qualifications, you will only be considered for a scholarship if you have published work or done a lot of study before. All other candidates will not be considered.

To be qualified for this scholarship, you must also do the following:

  • be an Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia. You can also be an international candidate starting a PhD study at RMIT on January 1, 2025.
  • they want to go to RMIT full-time for their PhD study.

It is possible that you won’t be able to get a VCPS if:

  • There is already progress on your PhD study at RMIT.
  • You already have a research doctorate or a qualification that is similar in terms of study.
  • You are currently getting another award, grant, or research-related salary that is worth more than 75% of the 2025 RTP base rate and will help you pay for the research degree.
  • You haven’t met the English standards by the deadline for the scholarship (only for people in the UK).
